Leadership Fayette Class of 2022 Agriculture Session Recap

Leadership Fayette Class of 2022 continues to navigate their spring courses. The most recent session, held at Ames Plantation on April 19, focused on the importance of Agriculture to the Fayette County community. Somerville Chief of Police David Webb moderated the overall event and instructed participants on the value of “dependable leadership.” An overview of the history and significance of Ames Plantation was given by Dr. Rick Carlisle. Finally, a panel discussion, moderated by Debbie Sullivan, was observed by participants. Class member DeAnn Granderson comments, “I thoroughly enjoyed the last session on Agriculture. The panel represented various entities and perspectives within agriculture, which made for a great discussion.”

Panelists included Steve Reeves, Vice Chairman -Fayette County Commissioner; Jeff Via, Extension Agent, Fayette County; Rhea Taylor, Soil Conservation Technician, USDA-NRCS; Willie German, Chairman, Fayette County Commissioner; Willie T. Odeneal III, UT Martin Agriculture Student; and Brandon Karcher, K&K Farms.

Participant Granderson reflects positively on her experience with LF 2022. “I believe my favorite session was session three Innovative Leadership. The president of Bank of Fayette pointed out you have to connect with your community in order to properly service your community. Fayette county and their municipalities are growing each day as locals and new transplants alike come to live and work together as residents and neighbors. Staying connected as a community will allow Fayette County to continue to thrive. Staying connected through supporting local businesses and schools, along with staying informed about local/regional/state government initiatives, is a must.”

By far, I enjoyed the economic development course the best. I learned so much from both Doug Swink at Renaissance Realty, as well as McCall Wilson. In particular, my eyes were really opened to the scope and scale of the Blue Oval City project. It would appear the all the towns and municipalities need to work together to coordinate a game plan. The projected growth is quite staggering,” comments participant Brad Kessler.

As Leadership Fayette Class of 2022 head toward their final month of courses, an upcoming session slated for May 14 will be at the CAB Community Room in Somerville, TN. This course will focus on the “Humanity of Leadership and Community Service.” It is also the 20th year anniversary celebration of Leadership Fayette. Moderated by Leadership Fayette board member Civil Miller-Watkins, this session is designed to demonstrate the value of being a servant leader.

LF Class of 2022 is tentatively set for commencement on Saturday, June 5, 2022 at the CAB Community Room.
