The Leadership Fayette cohort of 2024 embarked on their annual Tour de Fayette under cloudy skies on Tuesday, April 16. Among the attendees were Debra Brown, Alan Coker, Julianna Craft, Beverly Curland, Amy Foster, Uzette Grandison, Ellery Grier-Herron, Zolanda Massey, and Eric Stone. Lynn Palmer and Sharon Puryear served as tour guides. Skilled driver Mr. Leon Allen assisted the group as the driver for the day.
The Tour showcased numerous points of interest around the county. The day began with a stop at White House Coffee for breakfast, where the staff efficiently accommodated 12 individuals within an hour, providing a variety of drinks and breakfast options. Afterward, a group photo was taken outside the bus, with two kind guests from White House Coffee assisting. The next visit was the Carl Perkins Center, followed by several other visits where the tour guides and experienced class members shared insightful commentary about the Fayette County history and landmarks.
Despite encountering road closures and bridge outages, Mr. Allen navigated the bus expertly, utilizing his knowledge of backroads and alternate routes. His skillful driving even prompted suggestions that he be involved in future county evacuation exercises. Leadership Fayette is grateful for the air-conditioned bus provided by Fayette County Public Schools and Mr. Allen's service.
Lunch at Sweet Creations in LaGrange was another highlight, with many class members impressed by the boutique offerings. Molly McCarley joined the class for lunch and provided valuable insights into the history of LaGrange.
Participants exchanged ideas for future Tour de Fayette events, inspired by the day's positive experiences.
