1. What are some of the things you appreciate most about Fayette County?
Fayette County has always been my home and where I started my journey becoming a young man with dreams and hopes to be a positive leader one day. Fayette County provided several opportunities for me to open a couple of businesses in the Town of Somerville. Where some felt that it would be a challenge for me to become successful, I chose to take that challenge and it was a positive opportunity. I chose to never look back but push forward. All kinds of Fayette Countians, local businesses, local government, and the Fayette School district all supported me in my H & H Express Television Repair and Hill’s Computer Center, Inc. businesses from the years of 1989 to 1997. I truly sought out this dream and it was successful. Even today the business still exists, though I am not a partner any longer (Somerville Electronics). I had other callings to adhere to in this county such as completing my Masters Degree in Educational Technology.
2. What was your motivation to attend Leadership Fayette?
As a 2015 Alumni, I wanted to learn about the local government, businesses, and stakeholders and how they are structured around the county. I even learned about the political arena throughout Fayette County and how to seek out the important pieces to keep the county functional day-to-day.
3. What have you personally gotten out of your involvement in Leadership Fayette?
Learning from each other and culture was very important to become a good leader and share my skills, talents, and abilities with others to make a positive contribution to Fayette County in all that I do. Networking with people throughout the Leadership Fayette Sessions, connecting me with other resources and people helped.
4. How did attending Leadership Fayette influence you as a leader?
Leadership Fayette influenced me so much with knowledge from local government to the Capital. The structure of each session was very welled planned from the beginning to graduation. At that time not knowing that I was being prepared to run for a county wide position in 2016, the influences were great.
5. Would you encourage others to get involved with Leadership Fayette? Why?
I certainly believe that anyone who wants to know the entire functions of the county should first become an Alumni of Leadership Fayette. The tours of the Justice Complex, agriculture, public and private school district, and local businesses gives you a better inside of the day to day operations. You can get a better snapshot of what makes up Fayette County. Also you will have experience from visiting the legislature and Governor at the State Capital. It is very important to know who decided or voted on laws for us locally. Representation is very important locally, state-wide, and federal. We must start at home and spread abroad with the knowledge that we gather through Leadership Fayette.
6. What positive impact are you planning on having on Fayette County as a result of attending Leadership Fayette?
To become more involved in the county when the time is called for action on my part for the good of all people. To better support our students throughout Fayette County as much as possible. Because one day, just as I once was a child, the children will soon become leaders to support the next generation. I believe that everyone has a chance to become whatever they put their mind to become. I continue to improve and learn as much as possible while knowledge is free.
7. How did attending Leadership Fayette prepare you for your current and/or next career?
I am currently involved throughout the county having positive conversations about what we need or continue to influence others with a positive attitude about Fayette County. Leadership Fayette prepared me to actively participate in the political system that shaped lives and communities through growth and opportunities for everyone now and in the future.
I believe in “Respect” will get you a long way in Life and it will open doors on your journey.
