May 2021 LF Alumni Spotlight: Kayla Dillon

1. What are some of the things you appreciate most about Fayette County?

I appreciate the diversity and size of Fayette County. I was surprised to learn that Fayette County was one of the largest counties in Tennessee, and I think this contributes to the variety of people and places in Fayette County. This diversity makes the county a special place to live and work.

2. What was your motivation to attend Leadership Fayette?

I was new to the UT Martin Somerville Center and had recently moved back to Somerville so attending Leadership Fayette was an opportunity to learn more about Fayette County as well as meet and network with other community members.

3. What have you personally gotten out of your involvement in Leadership Fayette?

As a 2019 class member, I was able to learn so many interesting things about Fayette County that I had never known before. After our session that included a presentation from the local EMA office, I singed up and complete the CERT training for community members. I felt this was a wonderful training that helped put emergency preparedness in perspective for me both personally and professionally. I have since been involved in other community events and feel that I have gotten to know more people in Fayette County through Leadership Fayette.

4. How did attending Leadership Fayette influence you as a leader?

As a leader, I feel that you should be willing to take on any task needed no matter how big or how small your part will be in a project. Leadership Fayette increased my awareness of leadership opportunities in the community both big and small.

5. Would you encourage others to get involved with Leadership Fayette? Why?

I would definitely encourage others to be involved with Leadership Fayette. Whether you are interested in learning more about Fayette County or you are an alumnus of Leadership Fayette, there are ample opportunities to connect with others, support the program and support our community.

6. What positive impact are you planning on having on Fayette County as a result of attending Leadership Fayette?

I hope that my presence with Leadership Fayette raises awareness for the UT Martin Somerville Center and its ability to be a resource for the community. I also hope that as a board member of Leadership Fayette I can promote the program in a way that showcases its value for future participants.

7. How did attending Leadership Fayette prepare you for your current and/or next career?

Leadership Fayette connected me with a lot of local community leaders and programs. After graduating from Leadership Fayette, I felt that I had created contacts across the county that were mutually beneficial professional contacts. Since graduation I have been able to continue these professional relationships and stay involved in the community.

8. What year did you graduate from Leadership Fayette?

I graduated from Leadership Fayette in May of 2019.
